Flowers and Rainbows - a poem about the frilly things in life
Flowers and rainbows
Are frilly silly things
When reality has you in its throes
This world has too much hurt and pain
No time to fuss over colors after rain
Or notice fields in floral bloom
Or listen to a sweet bird's tune
Righting wrongs and being strong
Crying out when injustice found
Encouraging change your favorite song
Noble pursuits always at the forefront
Doom and gloom and fight and strife
No time to waste on frilly silly things
What a lonely gloomy life
I don’t paint rainbows in my room
My voice is no melodious tune
Never will I shit rays of sunshine
I don’t always pen a pretty rhyme
But I see the sparkle in a newborn’s eyes
I feel passion in lovers’ sighs
And listen to the songbird’s trills
I always get such joyous thrills
When I read of Wordsworth’s daffodils
Those glorious flowers sucking strength
From muck of the soil and decomposed life
As much as from the glow of the sun
That strikes droplets clear to make rainbows
That I stopped painting long ago
Frilly Poems
- Summer Daybreak - Haiku in Traditional Style
The beauty of summer - Surprise! - haiku
A simple haiku for two of my good friends. - The Seasons In Socks - Haiku
A journey from Spring to Winter, little girl to woman, told in socks.
Flowers cheer my somber soul
With visions lovely as they grow
And feed bees that make the honey
Soothing elixir golden and sweet
A remedy as much as a treat
From insects with a dreaded sting
Used to defend that precious thing
Beauty rises from the muck and dirt
Healing comes from things that hurt
Frilly flowers and candy sweet
Not always just a frivolous treat
These silly things, they heal and feed
Giving energy we sorely need
A retreat from things hard and sour
We cannot spend all waking hours
Waging wars for what is right
If all is shadow without light
Let us have for goodness sake
An occasional piece of cake
Show us what we are fighting for
How else can we wage this endless war
Without frilly things life’s just a chore
To read and write of love and flowers
Can give to us such glorious power
These pursuits are not a waste of time
They make our meager lives worth living
Just ask those children that you are saving
What things put smiles on their faces
As I fight making this world a better place
As I encourage others to join the race
I will stop to ponder colors after rain
And read of flowers and eat of sweets
Write of things that to my soul are treats
I might even paint rainbows once again
I hope you all will do the same
