Peanut Butter and Jelly - a poetic affair
This poem, or whatever it is, came out of a conversation with fellow hubber Mark Weller. You might know him as Curiad. I mentioned to him that I was writing a rather odd poem about ice cream, to which he replied that peanut butter would make an excellent subject. Next thing you know we are carrying on about peanut butter and jelly, an affair with fluff, and other wacky plot lines.
Since that conversation I have been determined to honor my promise to Mark to pen a poem about peanut butter. It was supposed to be a Limerick, but this happened instead. Mark, I hope I did it right!
Peanut Butter and Jelly
Between two slices of bread
Lovers eagerly meet
A perfect pairing
Between soft white sheets
Sticky sweet yet salty
Presses firmly against
Soft squishy sweetness
Peanut butter and Jelly
Something is amiss
Hint of fluff
How dare he cheat
This pairing not so sweet
Slices open once again
PB lies in wait
Ready for the feel of
Jiggling sugary grape
His discretion wiped away
Fingers press together slices
Soft Jelly yields to firm PB
In bites of Noontime bliss
Now PB yields to firmness
As banana presses in
Fluff appears
Soft sticky gooey heaven
Sneaking a snack
But where is the bread
Peanut butter exposed
Wraps around bare banana
Left craving more
Jelly now seems bland
Raspberry preserves exciting
The prick of her seeds
Did Jelly see
From jar tucked away
Peanut Butter’s fruity experiments
Some naked, no bread
Slices fresh as they are
PB clean of all others
Jelly knows everything
Does not need to see
Knives tell all
Sharp gossipy tongues
Sticking themselves
in everyone’s jars
Jelly knows all about
That floozy Fluff
Surely she encouraged
Those experiments with Banana
Still Jelly meets Peanut Butter
Though less frequently she is
spread and jiggling
Waiting to be consumed
Hungry For More?
- Sundae Satisfaction - poem
Who says sundaes are just for kids? Adults can enjoy them too.
Peanut butter doesn’t know
Too wrapped up
In torrid pairings
of fruit and fluff
Every slow sleepy morning
As he sits on the shelf
waiting for forays of fruit
Jelly has toast on the side
